As a Medical Biller, you will be working closely with clients to answer questions related to billing, processing all forms needed for insurance billing purposes, and collecting necessary documentation from clients. You will also assist other Medical Billers with follow-up inquiries to clients, communicate with physicians' offices and hospitals to obtain records, and accurately record patient information. The ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and is comfortable spending much of the day on the phone. Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day billing and insurance processes for our Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology services . Verify patient insurance benefits, eligibility, authorizations, and coverage requirements for Speech, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology services. Prepare, submit, and follow up on insurance claims through private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Ensure claims are submitted accurately and in a timely manner, with all required documentation, forms, authorizations, and signatures. Accurately enter and maintain patient, insurance, billing, and payment information in our system. Monitor outstanding claims, denials, payments, and patient balances and take appropriate follow-up action. Work directly with our therapists, psychologists, and clinical staff to obtain any necessary information or documentation needed for accurate billing. Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, benefits, authorizations, denials, and payment issues. Assist patients and families with questions regarding their insurance coverage, statements, balances, and billing. Ensure that all Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology services are billed correctly according to each payer's requirements . Answer phones, assist patients and families with questions, take messages, and screen calls as needed. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and protect all patient, medical, and insurance information. Minimum Qualifications Previous experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, and/or medical coding required. Knowledge of private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare billing requirements. Familiarity with insurance verification, authorizations, claim submission, denials, payment posting, and follow-up. Strong customer service and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims, accounts, and priorities. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently, identify billing issues, and follow through to resolution. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and navigate electronic medical records and billing systems. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling patient, medical, and insurance information. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) preferred. Bachelor's degree in Public Health or a related healthcare field preferred. 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred. Previous experience billing Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology services strongly preferred. Experience with OfficeAlly and Waystar preferred. Experience verifying eligibility and benefits with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), TRICARE, and Medi-Cal managed care plans preferred. Familiarity with Medi-Cal managed care plans and payer requirements throughout Los Angeles to San Diego County is a bonus.
