Job Description
The Neurosurgical & Spine Institute of Savannah is looking for an experienced ASC Billing/ Collections Specialist to join our team! AR Specialist Responsibilities:
Represents NIOS in a manner that ensures a positive service image and tone for the organization. Evaluates all scheduled patients with the pre-certification team to confirm that ASC is in network with the patient's insurance and that the patient's specific plan covers the requested case in ASC environment. Provides self-pay patients with a Good Faith Estimate covering all related CPT codes less self-pay discount, setting up a plan to confirm all fees are paid upfront on or before the day of procedure. Researches and resolves any claims that show no response by insurance within 30 days of filing. Actively works through list of denied claims by gathering the documentation needed to correct the claim or facilitate an appeal. Routinely audits implant payments against implant invoices to identify any negative trends by payer, procedure, or vendor. Clearly documents all work within practice management system so others understand what follow-up and adjustments have occurred within the accounts touched. Promptly answers inquiries from patients, co-workers, and supervisors regarding patient accounts in a kind and courteous manner. Makes outbound calls to patients to effectively communicate outstanding balance information, address questions, and obtain payment/payment plan for any accounts marked patient responsibility and/or self-pay. Follows up on broken payment plan accounts, and actively works with patients to resolve. Pinpoints delinquent accounts that need to be turned over to the appropriate agency for collections. Highlights any credit balances caused, confirming what needs to be transferred to NIOS and/or refunded. Assists in the evaluation, negotiation and implementation of new ASC payor agreements. Monitors and reports payer issues to management. Performs other duties as assigned.Skills/Requirements:
High school graduate or GED required Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field, preferred 2 to 5 years relevant experience in coding and billing, required At least one year of experience in facility coding and billing, preferred At least one year of experience in surgical coding and billing, preferred Mathematical aptitude and accuracy Patience and tact when working with patientsLicense & Certification:
Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines as well as state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines. Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology. Ability to develop training materials, make group presentations, and to train staff. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and related documents and to maintain working relationships with physicians and other staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software Self-directed and positive attitude essential.Job Type:
