Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Business Operations, the charge capture specialist is responsible for understanding the charge capture audit system tools and business procedure in order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the charge capture phase of the revenue cycle. Achieve high customer satisfaction by building relationships with CDM specialists, medical records, finance patient accounting department and demonstrating a keen understanding of the revenue cycle function. Responsible for validating and reconciling all Department charges by reviewing the medical record. Makes additions and deletions to the charges as necessary and updates the financial system. Monitors and corrects charge exceptions, delinquent data, discharges and MD reports. Works closely with Health Information Management, Patient Access Management and Financial Services to ensure accuracy in charge capture and billing.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience in charge capture, chart review, and chart auditing required Minimum of 2-5 years of financial experience Demonstrates progressive responsibilities in healthcare Effective communication, analytical, organizational skills Understands the importance of communication Follow through on messages and to the appropriate staff member Uses clinical knowledge and billing expertise to compare the medical record documentation and patient account detail to the individual item billed Works closely with CDM Specialist, medical records, finance, patient accounting departments and site Directors to follow up and resolve charge capture issues

Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) or equivalent experience in business, finance or health related field

Hours Per Week Essential Functions:

Enters and reconciles charges for all Main OR, Endoscopy, and ASC patients Follows Life of Supply workflow for new item adds Identify and resolve duplicate registrations and cancelled accounts with the assistance of Patient Access Management Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medicine and pharmaceutical terminology, ask questions to clarify misunderstandings Maintains confidentiality of patients information at all times Must possess the ability to organize work effectively, manage multiple concurrent priorities with competing deadlines and pay careful attention to detail and presentation Must possess the ability to organize work effectively, manage multiple concurrent priorities with competing deadlines and pay careful attention to detail and presentation Maintains strong knowledge of EPIC applications Refers billing issues to finance and Manager Reviews daily schedule and reconciles Operative Record for each patient Responsible for supporting hospital charge capture and revenue improvement initiatives Special projects to improve resource cycle outcomes Supports and enhances the compliance efforts of the hospital by adhering to the regulatory departmental and organizational guidelines relating to charging for services
