Job Description:
The billing specialist is responsible for overseeing the billing process for patients and clients. Their duties include, but are not limited to, collecting and processing payments, managing claims processing and denials, maintaining organized financial records of patients and clients, generating reports of payment, claims, debt, outstanding balance, and patient responsibilities, payment collections, invoicing and patient and client financial statements.
Billing Specialist Job Responsibilities:
Answering patients' billing questions in person and over the phone. Coordinating payment arrangements with patients. Working directly with providers and insurance companies. Collects delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients; monitoring payments; following up with patients when payment lapses occur. Check eligibility and benefit verification. Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness. Prepare, review, and mail paper claim processing. Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare and state Medicaid. Follow up in unpaid claims within standard billing cycle time frame. Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments, if necessary. Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances. Research and appeal denied claims. Answer all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to accounts.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma Minimum of one to two years in a medical billing office setting. Experience with using Medical Billing software(s) to collect, post, process payments, and claims. Experience in multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities in a work environment. Experience with attention to detail and problem-solving in a work environment. Strong written, verbal, in-person, and telephonic communication skills. Experience working with patients in a medical or clinic environment. Strong organizational and planning skills. Ability to effectively work, communicate, support, and accepting of individuals of all backgrounds. Ability to maintain positive office etiquette. Ability to work effectively under pressure. Possess a warm and welcoming personality.
