This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse medical records, utilize cutting-edge EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems, and contribute directly to the financial health of healthcare operations. Your attention to detail and knowledge of medical coding and billing will help streamline revenue cycle management, support compliance, and improve patient experiences. Depending on level of experience, remote work is possible. Responsibilities Review and analyze medical records, including physician notes, lab reports, and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology). Ensure all coding aligns with current guidelines, regulations, and payer requirements for accurate reimbursement. Prepare and submit clean claims for insurance processing using EMR/EHR systems, verifying all necessary information is complete and correct. Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through medical collection procedures to optimize revenue recovery. Maintain comprehensive documentation of coding decisions, billing activities, and correspondence related to medical records. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or incomplete records for precise coding. Stay updated on changes in ICD coding standards, CPT updates, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Experience Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting, with familiarity in CPT coding and ICD-10 coding systems. Prior experience in ophthalmology and optometry coding/billing preferred Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical records management. Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems for documentation review and claim submission. Knowledge of medical billing processes including insurance claims submission, payment posting, and collections. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately. Prior experience in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking across coding, billing, and collections tasks is preferred.
