Job Description
The role of the Business Office Associate is to maximize workflow efficiency in the Bone & Joint Institute Business Office by assisting with incoming calls, claim follow up and minor aspects of revenue cycle. Assisting with charge entry as needed when adequately trained. Position Requirements Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, have PC experience and have good communication skills to discuss account financials with patients and payors. Medical Coding Degree or Certification required. Prior experience in a medical office setting with a solid knowledge base of the revenue cycle. Must have good customer service and intra-personal skills. Job requires close attention to detail. Athena Health EHR system and Phreesia for patient intake and payments Business Office Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time, and viewing the computer screen. Must have a clear, understandable telephone voice. Key Results Assist phone patients with basic account information or request, i.e., account balance, itemized bills, insurance verification. May include, but not limited to forwarding incoming calls to appropriate staff member or Financial Counselor as needed. Utilizes Athena EHR to accurately process all accounts assigned by system/manager daily with detailed documentation of all information discussed when working accounts/claims. Utilizes the payor and Passport websites to access on-line information such as claim status inquires, eligibility, etc. Competently understand and work the EMR and billing systems in order to be able to assist with charge entry for E/M charges as needed. Utilizes payer websites for claim information, to make corrections, file appeals and upload documentation when available and needed. Analyzes EOBs and remittances for secondary insurance filing and to determine appropriate patient liability or secondary payer amount Reviews and takes action on assigned accounts provided in a time frame consistent with peers and claim productivity metrics assigned by manager Help with facilitation of claim follow-up with payers and help to resolve/proactively avoid claim rejections and denials (i.e. daily verifying authorizations prior to service date. Collect accurate patient payments and set up payment plans as needed in designated EMR systems. Utilizes Outlook to communicate billing and coding issues with physicians and staff to educate and resolve billing issues and claims denials. Reports concerns requiring attention to manager or director. Employee is a problems solver that brings possible solutions when presenting concerns or problems. Participates in departmental meetings/huddles/etc. and recommends improvement opportunities. Performs other duties as assigned by manager and independently seeks out job duties during down time.
