Job Description

Judicial Administrative Assistant $44,234 - $59,279/
Year Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Life Insurance Paid Time Off Pension Plan Duties:
Performs confidential administrative support, including screening and handling calls, scheduling hearings, meetings, and appointments, and maintaining the judge's calendar. Prepares agendas, records meetings, and drafts minutes. Monitors courtroom recording equipment to ensure accurate logging of proceedings and maintains the permanent court record, including labeling, reproduction, and file custody. Maintains judge's records, correspondence, transcripts, and related documents, and prepares required SCAO reports. Creates reports, charts, graphs, forms, and distribution lists. Administers oaths, marks exhibits, and transcribes and certifies court proceedings. Serves as liaison with judges, staff, attorneys, law enforcement, county departments, and the public regarding court operations. Trains new and backup recorders and judicial support staff. Education and Experience:
Associate degree in business or a related field; and two years of administrative and clerical support experience, including one year of word processing experience; OR High school diploma or equivalent and four years administrative and clerical support experience, including one year of word processing experience.
Special Requirements:
Will be required to obtain state certification as a Certified Electronic Recorder (CER) or Certified Electronic Operator (CEO) within one year of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license throughout the course of employment. A pre-employment physical, drug screening, background check, and fingerprinting are required. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout employment. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; reach and bend; and sit/stand for prolonged amounts of time. May be assigned to work at any Berrien County Trial Court location.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of court operations, courtroom procedures, recording equipment, and relevant agencies within Michigan and/or Berrien County preferred. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication. Proficient in creating and maintaining spreadsheets. Familiar with ICLE and other legal resources. Able to work collaboratively, remain flexible, and function effectively in a team environment. Self-directed with the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
