Job Description

Join our team as a Deputy Register of Deeds I - Vital Records , where precision and public service come together. In this role, you'll perform a variety of clerical and legal duties that support the accurate recording, filing, and indexing of official documents within the Register of Deeds Office. Your work will help ensure the integrity and accessibility of official records, including the recording, indexing, and issuance of vital records, property documents, and other materials, while adhering to state laws and regulations. As a Deputy ROD I - Vital Records, you'll assist the public with care and professionalism, ensuring a smooth and positive experience from start to finish. This role requires attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to follow established procedures while making independent decisions about the accuracy and completeness of records. You'll be responsible for providing customer service to include answering incoming phone lines. Tact, courtesy, and a commitment to excellent service are key to success in this position. Employees in this office serve at the discretion of the Register of Deeds, an elected official.

Graduation from high school or received GED and at least six (6) months to a year of experience in clerical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working in a Register of Deeds Office. North Carolina Notary Public Certification. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, etc. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
