Job Description
Position Summary Works under general supervision to assist in the processes, reviews, and manages legal documents for cases under appeal, ensuring compliance with court rules and timelines.
Pay Grade:
44 Salary Commensurate with Education and Experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 2-5 years experience working in a legal environment, preferably within the Tennessee judicial system (Circuit, Chancery, Criminal, or Appellate courts). An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities Initiates the appeals process, including receiving notices of appeal, calculating deadlines, and organizing the Record on Appeal. Prepares, assembles, and certifies technical records and transcripts for transmission to the appellate court, ensuring all documents are filed within statutory timeframes. Drafts, files, and distributes legal notices, orders, and correspondence to attorneys and parties involved. Acts as the primary contact for judges, attorneys, and pro se litigants regarding the status of appeals for Circuit Court. Maintain database accuracy for all case records, tracking the movement of files between the trial court and appellate levels. Initiates the appeal process, including receiving notices of appeal, calculating deadlines, and organizing the Record on Appeal. KSA's Ability to pay high attention to detail in preparing legal documents and certifying records. Proficient ability to draft professional legal correspondence and understanding legal documents. Proficient knowledge of electronic filing systems (e-filing), case management software, and MS Office. Knowledge of Tennessee civil/criminal procedures, legal terminology, and case management systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills for dealing with judges and attorneys. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating decisions and situations and preparing information. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to work with coworkers and the public with courtesy and tact. Ability to operate all office machines, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to cross-train in the Courtroom department and throughout Circuit Court.
