The Court Clerk maintains an accurate record of court events and filings, performs all phases of clerk operation in court, keeping minutes of proceedings, swearing in witnesses, tracking exhibits, and follow up documentation of court proceedings, and criminal case management. They are a vital link between the public, various offices of the court system, litigants and justice partners.RESPONSIBILITIES A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Perform a variety of duties related to case management from case initiation through disposition. Ensure all documents and hearings are accurately entered in cases. 2. Prepare and organize electronic files for court activity and assist judge in ensuring all critical issues are addressed. 3. Take complete and accurate minutes of court proceedings, ensuring all appearances, advisement of rights, waivers, motions, stipulation, witnesses, exhibits, and orders are entered in the record while being mindful that the information recorded in the minutes will be available online via the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA) website. 4. Administer oaths to witnesses, interpreters, jurors, and bailiffs. 5. Prepare court orders, judgments, warrants and other documents for judicial review and signature. Process and disseminate to all necessary parties and/or agencies. 6. Assist general public in a pleasant and professional manner with information, records, and directions. Assist co-workers as necessary. 7. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner. 8. Must be familiar with and exemplify the Wood County Core Values and serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood County Code of Conduct.B. OTHER DUTIES 1.
Assist general public at the counter or by telephone with information, records, and requests. Make certification of records as requested. 2. Any other duties as may be assigned.AA/EEO EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate; or equivalent, with a legal or management certificate with one (1) year legal experience or three (3) years legal experience.Further requirements include:
Typing skills of 50 wpm. Working knowledge of computers and the ability to learn and utilize in-house computer programs and any upgrades. Accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational skills are a must. Ability to learn moderately complex court procedures with hands-on training and perform those procedures with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain punctuality and adhere to tight time scheduling. Ability to anticipate the evolving needs within the courtroom, and coordinate with external parties including jail staff, court security, attorneys, and court staff. Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and the general public. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, work efficiently, meet time constraints, and remain flexible under pressure. Maintaining confidentiality is critical. Basic everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to read, write, add, and subtract is necessary for maintaining court documents and related matters.Basic office equipment used:
