• Historic Passenger Railcar Rebuild Overview Are you a hands-on leader with a deep appreciation for historical preservation and mechanical craftsmanship?

We are seeking an experienced Shop Manager to oversee the restoration and maintenance of vintage passenger railcars. This is a unique opportunity to combine up to date technical expertise with a passion for history—managing projects that bring classic rail equipment back to life combining authenticity and modern mechanical/electrical systems. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day operations of the railcar restoration shop, including project scheduling, staff supervision, and workflow coordination. Work along side staff to complete daily tasks with the goal of completing projects. Ensure high-quality workmanship in the restoration, repair, and maintenance of historic railcars—balancing historical accuracy with modern safety standards. Lead and mentor a skilled team of craftsmen, fabricators, welders, carpenters, electricians, and mechanical specialists. Maintain accurate records of project progress, materials, budgets, and timelines. Oversee procurement and inventory of specialty parts and materials, often sourcing or fabricating rare or obsolete components. Ensure safe working conditions and enforce adherence to shop safety protocols and federal rail regulations (e.g., FRA, AAR). Analyze shop performance, track costs, and develop strategies to improve efficiency and project outcomes. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and industry partners. Qualifications & Skills 5+ years of management experience in a heavy equipment repair shop, or similar mechanical/industrial environment. Strong leadership and project management skills with a proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams. Deep understanding of mechanical, structural, and electrical systems. Hands-on experience with shop equipment, fabrication techniques. Exceptional organizational and communication skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings, historical blueprints, and procedural documentation. Valid driver's license; clean driving record, ability to pass a drug test.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Comfortable working in various environments, including indoor workshops and outdoor settings.
• Willingness to adhere to all company safety policies and wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Availability to work full-time or part-time as needed.
• Prior experience or coursework in related fields (e.g., mechanical, electrical, construction) is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Willingness to travel and work at customer sites.
