Summary:
Assists Chief Engineer in directing and overseeing the activities of the engineering department, regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors or staff. Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel's engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts. Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservation, and preventative maintenance programs. Oversees the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering staff are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements. Provides direction and acts as example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities. Analyzes and maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner. Assistant Engineer License of Uninspected Fishing Vessel - Unlimited HP or equivalent 4 years of Engineering experience or 4 years at a Maritime Academy as equivalent
Preferred Requirements:
Advanced firefighting skills Current First Aid and CPR cards 1 year as an Oiler/Wiper STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Preferred education and experience Familiarity of all relevant state and federal requirements/regulations Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures Familiarity with production needs and willingness to work with vessel manager to support production. Work environment (includes travel/on-call): While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station.
Mental Activities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will occasionally be required to exercise independent judgment and use discretion.
