Job Description
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education High school graduate or equivalent. Superficial knowledge of the reasons for patient care as administered in the agency, some knowledge of physiology, anatomy, neurology, and medical terminology is desirable and would be helpful, but not necessary. Skills and proficiency in oral and written grammar, communication, and basic mathematics. Experience Ability to problem-solve, pay attention to details and plan effectively. Effective oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills to include being able to type 35 wpm with 98% accuracy. Physical This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information. Requires physical strength to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to work required schedule. Frequent sitting, stooping, standing, walking, bending, pushing/pulling up to 8 pounds a distance of 2 feet frequently. Carrying up to 10 pounds a distance of 80 feet frequently. Lifting up to 10 pounds from floor to shoulder occasionally, and lifting up to 5 pounds overhead occasionally. Fine hand manipulation, bilaterally continuously. Visual acuity corrected to 20/20.JOB SUMMARY
Arrange for the efficient and orderly registration of patients; ensure that accurate patient information is collected and that patients are made aware of hospital policies and procedures. Responsible for patient demographics utilization in the preparation of records and reports used in making operation decisions. Works with and has access to confidential patient information. Position requires making frequent decisions or actions following general procedures often without clearly defined precedents. Position requires a high degree of metal alertness and close visual attention to details. Position requires diplomacy and a professional image and manner in dealing wit h patients, families, visitors, medical staff, and SBMC customers. Job responsibility includes regist r at ion in any of our outpatient clinic locations. Responsible for assisting the clinic manager, patients, coding department, and business off ice with resolving specialized issues that occur throughout the claims process. There is a moderate level of decision maki ng associated wi t h th is position, and a moderate degree of interaction with other hospital departments. This person must be able to use diplomacy and tact when interacting with other people while communication issues that affect rehab care and the clinics operations. This position is responsible for t he proper collect ion of patient procedures, insurance pre-authorization . Scheduling of new and ongoing patient care. The person must be ab le to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. This person is expected at all times to portray a positive professional public image. This position is required to utilize independent judgement. Secretary 2 position will be a working position. The employee will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the clinic's front office. Ability to relate cooperatively with patients, families, significant others, co-workers, office and rehab department administ ration, other hospital and clinic department, physicians, community agencies, third -par ty payers, referral sources, regulators and health team members. Ability to constructively supervise others. High tolerance of stress. Ability to asses, project and plan for patient and clinic needs. Ability to interpret stat e/ federal/ other agency regulations. Ability to document accurately and timely. Ability to handle a variety of duties which may be interrupted or changed by immediate circumstances.
