The LSU Agricultural Center is a statewide organization with offices in every parish of Louisiana. We are currently seeking extraordinary candidates for the position outlined below. This position will be domiciled in Botanic Gardens. About the
LSU Agricultural Center:
The LSU AgCenter is one of 8 campuses within the LSU enterprise. The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 academic departments and five regions which are made up of 15 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish. Position Description:
This position is limited to an appointment of 2 years or less. The Community Engagement Coordinator position will report to the Botanic Gardens Senior Event Coordinator and work with the Botanic Gardens and Rural Life Museum staff to create a welcoming and engaging environment for guests at Burden Museum & Gardens. This will involve providing guests with information about the LSU Rural Life Museum, LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens and Windrush Gardens, managing admissions and gift shop sales, encouraging membership and donations, assisting with community engagement through exhibits and educational programs, and assisting and coordinating events at the Welcome Center. This position reports to Leslie House.
Specific duties are as follows:
Welcome Center Management o Creating a
Welcoming Environment:
Serving as the first point of contact, greeting visitors, and making them feel welcome. o
Providing Information and Assistance:
Answering questions about the gardens and museum, providing directions, and connecting guests to relevant areas or resources. o
Processing Admissions and Sales:
Handling transactions for admissions, memberships and event tickets. o
Encouraging Membership and Donations:
Actively promoting membership benefits and encouraging renewals and upgrades and general contributions. o
Maintaining Cleanliness and Order:
Ensuring public areas and facilities are clean and presentable. o
Addressing Concerns and Resolving Issues:
Using creative problem-solving skills to resolve guest concerns and ensure satisfaction. o
Performing Administrative Tasks:
Handling clerical tasks, operate point of sales system, data entry, report generation, and assisting with office operations. o
Working Collaboratively:
Working with the staff of the Rural Life Museum and Botanic Gardens to ensure a seamless visitor experience. o Promoting the
Burden Museum & Gardens Mission:
Burden Museum and Gardens conserves and demonstrates Louisiana's native, agricultural, and designed landscapes and preserves the culture that evolves in response to these landscapes. o
Part-time Staff and Volunteers:
Hiring and scheduling part-time staff and volunteers to assist the coordinator in carrying out the operations of the Welcome Center.
Event Rentals:
o Assist the Botanic Gardens Senior Event Coordinator with booking and managing event rentals at the Welcome Center.
Exhibit Development and Installation:
o Work with Communications and Marketing to develop and install exhibits that focus on the history of the Burden Family and donation to LSU. o Work with Communications and Marketing to develop and install exhibits that promote significant research being conducted on the LSU campus and statewide.
Educational Programming:
o Assist with educational programs that focus on community resilience and living in balance with water. Performs other duties as assigned.

Flexibility and Adaptability:
Ability to handle changing needs of guests and events and quickly adjust and problem solve as issues arise. Availability to work on weekends and evenings when requested.
