) Lakewood Dental Arts is seeking an experienced Dental Insurance Coordinator to join our busy multi-specialty dental practice in Lakewood, CA . This is a temporary position to help cover for staff members who are currently on leave . We are looking for a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented team member with strong dental insurance knowledge who is also comfortable supporting day-to-day business office operations. Primary Responsibilities Insurance Verification & HMO Management Review the Insurance Eligibility Task List daily and prioritize verifications based on upcoming appointments. Verify insurance benefits directly with carriers. Update patient records, benefit breakdowns, and Family Financial Notes. Complete detailed PPO insurance breakdowns and upload supporting documentation to patient charts. Review and process DeltaCare/HMO eligibility documentation. Link verified insurance plans and accurately document effective and verification dates. Identify and communicate inactive coverage, missing information, insurance discrepancies, and estimated patient responsibility. Verify insurance for same-day and short-notice appointments. Lab Case Coordination & Mail Track incoming and outgoing dental lab cases and verify accuracy. Ensure documentation, applicable fees, and upgrades are posted correctly. Confirm lab cases are ready for upcoming appointments and follow up with labs regarding missing or delayed cases. Document lab communications and coordinate with doctors, patients, and the front office. Coordinate custom shade appointments and prepare lab referral forms. Prepare outgoing mail and address returned mail. Save and print upcoming office schedules. Phone & Patient Communication Assist with incoming calls as a secondary point of contact for the business office. Monitor and promptly return voicemails. Assist patients with general questions, insurance questions, copays, follow-ups, and appointment needs. Verify and update patient demographics, contact information, referral source, and insurance information. Assist with specialty appointment rescheduling and coordinate with Treatment Coordinators when necessary. Document patient communications according to office protocols. Assist with prescription/refill requests by gathering necessary pharmacy and patient information for the appropriate team member or provider. Provide courteous and professional customer service to our patients. Appointment Scheduling & Confirmation Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments according to office protocols. Refer complex and specialty cases—including implants, orthodontics, and extensive treatment—to the appropriate Treatment Coordinator. Ensure appointment entries include accurate procedure codes, providers, and notes. Confirm appointments by phone, text, or email. Maintain accurate confirmation statuses and insurance eligibility documentation in Open Dental . Business Office Support Assist with answering phones and returning patient messages as needed. Help monitor and respond to email, text, and other digital communications. Work collaboratively with the front office and Treatment Coordinators to maintain an efficient schedule and positive patient experience. Provide additional business office coverage as needed.
