Job description: About the
Role:
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and proactive Personal Assistant to support a 16-year-old participant in California's Self-Determination Program. This individual will serve as both a mentor and life coach, helping the participant build life skills, engage in community activities, and develop independence as they transition into young adulthood. Depending on the level of travel required, mileage reimbursement will be discussed over interviews.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one support during community outings, appointments, and daily activities.
  • Encourage development of life skills (e.g., budgeting, time management, planning).
  • Support the participant in balancing daily routines such as knowing when to embrace fun and freedom, and when to focus on chores, responsibilities, and personal goals.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor in areas such as communication, relationships, self-regulation, self-talk, and confidence building.
  • Help implement person-centered goals and support independence.
  • Model positive social behavior and decision-making.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the family and support team.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with teens or young adults.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; active listening, patience, respect, and dependability.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to rural Oroville and surrounding area.
  • Background check, live-scan and CPR/First Aid certification required.
Preferred Qualities:
  • Skills and interest in creative and intellectual pursuits such as art, graphic design, music, entomology, or other hands-on, expressive activities.
  • A natural mentor with the ability to guide and inspire.
  • Understanding of development in adolescents gearing up for adulthood.
  • Proficiency and competence in using technology for research, schoolwork, and the client's interests.
