Job Description

This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Senior Divisional Planning Manager or designee. Advanced clerical work processing applications for development permits and other associated services provided by the Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Answer Division phones and respond to caller providing information and guidance with follow-up and return calls as necessary for quality customer service in a timely manner. Receive and review for accuracy, completeness and document all applications and request for services to the Department. Responsible for receiving and performing a sufficiency review of all applications and request for services received through the Department's front counter. Research and issue Zoning Letters, Walk-Thru Permits, Public Records request, and other over-the-counter services provided by the Division. Accept monies for permits and services as required by county resolution. Accurately receipt transaction and account for individual daily activities at end of workday. Review all applications for accuracy, required approvals, collection of fees, and completeness prior to issuing permits. Perform daily task, filing, copying, restocking, office and file maintenance, permit upgrades, licensing, and other duties as assigned or as directed by the Permit Coordinator. This includes faxes, emails, phone calls, walk-ins, physical labor, and all other duties necessary to accomplish the Department's responsibilities. Coordinate with co-workers and Permit Coordinator all annual leave, lunch breaks, morning and afternoon breaks, start and finish times to ensure adequate counter and phone coverage during all business hours. Participate in mentoring, cross-training, personal development and skill enhancement necessary to successfully accomplish the Department's responsibilities and services. Each Permit Specialist must have the skills and abilities to provide services, information, and guidance to the customer to ensure a successful and pleasant experience. The Permit Specialist is responsible for requesting information or assistance from any Department staff as necessary to accomplish the assignment. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of general office procedures. Knowledge of construction terminology and documents. Knowledge of telephone etiquette. Knowledge of the uses of a computer and equipment. Ability to work effectively with various people. Ability to communicate effectively with customers. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to follow directions. Ability to follow through on designated tasks. Ability to handle numerous tasks at once. Skill in typing, filing and research techniques. Skill in operating office equipment. Skill at accessing, inputting and retrieving information from a computer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years experience in responsible office work, construction related work preferred (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
Notary. Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time. Ability to enter data at a prescribed rate of speed.
