Ames High School is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant. This position will begin in August 2026.
Summary
Under the direction of the building Associate Principals, this position is responsible for providing administrative support to staff, students, parents and visitors.
Work Summary:
Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm; 10 month position
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Works with and supports Ames High associate principals.
Provides administrative support to teachers and other staff, students, parents, and the public.
Greets and accommodates visitors, handles incoming telephone calls, and takes messages as appropriate.
Maintains office filing system.
Gathers data for and types correspondence, reports, and schedules.
Maintains records for principals or other building staff appropriate to the requirements of the office/building.
Maintains budget information and building activity accounts.
Assists in problem resolution in the areas of scheduling, busing, student services, or other emergency situations.
Contacts and orients substitutes for teaching staff and support staff before school and during working hours as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience as a High School Administrative Assistant or equivalent preferred.
The successful candidate will exhibit:
Knowledge and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, staff, and community populations.
Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures to include recordkeeping, filing, and reporting methods including Google Docs, email, spreadsheets, etc.
Ability to handle confidential work with tact and discretion.
Ability to interact with other staff, students, and the public to obtain and provide information.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
High standards of ethical conduct and exhibits honesty and integrity.
Commitment to quality service.
High level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision.
Consistent and punctual work attendance.
Compensation:
$18.90 per hour
