TITLE:
Secretary - Migrant Family Liaison
SUMMARY:
To act as a liaison between home and school; provide an avenue of communication and support in areas which may affect a migrant student's progress in school as defined by State and Federal guidelines.
REPORTS TO
Program Director and Building Administration.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum High School diploma / AA degree preferred Meet the Highly Qualified requirements set by Federal and State guidelines: Successful completion of a formal State Para Professional Assessment Test, or Complete an Associate Degree or higher, or Complete two years of college with a minimum of 32 credits Be able to read, write and speak fluently in English and be able to facilitate communication in the home language of the migrant parents and/or student Be familiar with language and customs of migrant populations Previous experience working with children preferred Ability to perform duties in accordance with general educational ethical requirements of the Jerome School District and the State Department of Education
DUTIES AND RESPONISBILITIES
Collaborate with Regional ID&R coordinator on a weekly basis to help with the identification of eligible migrant students in the district. Complete Certificate of Eligibility as soon as possible upon registration of migrant students per state and federal guidelines. Assist the district migrant director in involving migrant parents to be active participants in the education of their children. This includes active participation in the district Migrant Parent Advisory Committee. Refer migrant families to appropriate health, social, and/or legal services in order to meet the needs of the migrant student's successful participation in school. Prepare and maintain an on-going Family Liaison log or other form of written documentation, which reflects major Family Liaison activities. Share information on eligibility of migrant families with preschool programs where appropriate. Network with other agencies providing services to migrant student to ensure a coordinated service-delivery system. Make home visits to determine the reason for student absence within three working days from the last day of attendance. Actively and dynamically maintain records and complete reports as required by State and Federal Guidelines, Title Reviews, and as directed by Federal Program Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently stands, walks and sits. The employee may repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion repeatedly. The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs, such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to successfully meet multiple demands and interactions with the public and other staff. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors.
Terms of Employment:
Determined yearly by academic calendar, 8 hours per day (does not include unpaid lunch). This position shall be considered in all respects "employment at will" and the terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right and are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what types of services will be required by the District.
