The Administrative Program Specialist A plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of their assigned department at the Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP). Serving as the administrative backbone of the office, this position helps ensure programs, records, and operational processes are managed efficiently and accurately. Duties may include maintaining records and reports, preparing correspondence, processing departmental documents, coordinating schedules, tracking inventories or program activities, assisting with data entry, answering inquiries, and providing administrative support to supervisors and staff. The position also ensures departmental procedures are followed while maintaining the confidentiality and accuracy of official records. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential to success in this role. Through dependable administrative support and effective communication, the Administrative Program Specialist A helps the department operate efficiently and contributes to the overall mission of the Louisiana State Penitentiary. Making Accurate Judgments :
The ability to assess options, weigh risks, and make sound decisions using available information and logical reasoning. Three years of experience in administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Receives requests for production of documents for Medical lawsuits, conducts research and/or investigations regarding these requests and prepares responses to the requests. Maintains a tracking system involving all aspects of lawsuits. Provides supervisor with recommendation and justifications for equipment, supplies, positions and services for yearly budget requests/projections. Serves as assistant to a manager, which could include keeping appointment schedule, preparing travel, issuing directives to others on their behalf, and relieving the manager of administrative matters.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee will work with adult male inmates of all custody levels - minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.

PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
