Job Description

A Ward Clerk in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) provides crucial administrative support at the nursing station, ensuring smooth daily operations by managing resident records, answering phones, and coordinating communication between staff, residents, and families. They maintain medical records, schedule appointments, and update census data.
Key Responsibilities and Duties Resident Chart Management:
Prepare, maintain, and file resident records (paper or electronic) in compliance with HIPAA and facility policies.
Administrative Support:
Answer phones, greet visitors, process incoming faxes, and deliver messages promptly.
Nurse Station Coordination:
Assist nurses by preparing admission/discharge/transfer paperwork, updating census boards, and tracking physician orders.
Logistics & Scheduling:
Arrange resident transportation and schedule appointments with physicians or therapists.
Unit Organization:
Order, receive, and restock office and medical supplies for the nursing unit.
Required Skills and Qualifications Communication:
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with elderly residents, families, and staff.
Organization:
Strong multitasking skills to handle urgent requests while managing paperwork.
Technical Knowledge:
Proficiency in EHR (Electronic Health Record) software, computers, and Microsoft Office.
Medical Terminology:
Understanding of basic medical terminology and HIPAA regulations.
