About Us Bishop Janes United Methodist Church is an active, growing congregation in the heart of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. We operate a combined ministry and preschool program, an on-site cemetery, and a robust digital ministry reaching people well beyond our walls. We are a welcoming community committed to serving our neighbors and growing together in faith. The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled, self-directed Church Administrator to serve as the operational hub of our church office. This is a newly defined role created to meet the growing administrative needs of our ministry. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, financial literacy, and the professional maturity to represent our community with warmth and competence. This is an on-site position based at 22 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. Some hybrid flexibility may be available after an initial settling-in period. What You'll Do Communications & Digital Presence Produce weekly bulletin and worship slides Coordinate and produce our weekly Tower Bell newsletter Manage social media scheduling and engagement Maintain and grow our YouTube channel Coordinate advertising and website content updates Financial Administration Maintain QuickBooks — recording transactions and reconciling accounts Process accounts payable and print checks for authorized signatures Coordinate giving records with our Financial Secretary Prepare financial reports for Finance Committee and Church Council Serve as liaison with our payroll provider (Paychex) Administrative Operations Triage and respond to phone, email, and visitor inquiries Maintain church management system data integrity Manage facility scheduling and Google Calendar Prepare meeting materials and follow-up documentation Coordinate visitor and guest follow-up Manage prayer request distribution Human Resources & Volunteer Administration Coordinate onboarding paperwork for new staff and volunteers Maintain personnel files and volunteer records Coordinate Safe Sanctuary background checks and training compliance Support SPPRC with annual review scheduling and documentation Membership & Pastoral Records Maintain membership rolls and conduct periodic audits Record sacramental records — baptisms, confirmations, marriages, deaths Process membership transfers per UMC Discipline Compile Annual Conference statistical reports Cemetery Ministry Administration Maintain interment and deed records Correspond with families regarding scheduling and records requests Coordinate plot availability and section mapping What We're Looking For Proficiency in QuickBooks required Experience with Google Workspace and social media platforms Strong written communication and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision Commitment to confidentiality and discretion Enthusiasm for representing the mission and values of Bishop Janes UMC Prior experience in church, nonprofit, or small business administration a plus How to Apply Send your resume and a cover letter to careers@bjumc.org, or apply through Indeed.
