Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Experience
  • One (1) year of experience in medical billing or related field. Licenses & Certification
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License is required and must be insurable. Knowledge & Skills
  • Working knowledge of Contract Health Services (CHS) as related to PL 93
  • 638 in a tribal environment.
Knowledge of Contract Health Services (CHS), Indian Health Services (IHS) and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Health System (MNHS) Policies and Procedures. Knowledge of general medical terminology and of the terminology used in the process of claims and billing for medical services. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple work assignments in a timely manner. Knowledge of the Privacy Act as it relates to confidentiality and release of medical information. Ability to learn the requisition procedures, formats and protocols of the CHS Program. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients and their families, MNHS staff and the general public orally and in writing. Ability to utilize a personal computer and its applications in a Windows environment. Ability to maintain a confident professional demeanor.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide support and technical assistance to the Contract Health Services (CHS) Program regarding medical, surgical, dental, hospital and clinical services for eligible beneficiaries in conjunction with or in lieu of
MNHS/IHS
health facilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office setting. Incumbent has contacts with patients, CHS and other MNHS Staff and visitors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires the demands of normal office work. Incumbent must be able to cope with and adapt to constantly changing situations/demands.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following: Responsible for maintaining CHS and tribal program filing systems and file database in an effective and efficient manner. As directed by the supervisor, assist clients with Tribal Programs, vision and emergency medical assistance managed by the CHS office in accordance with established guidelines and regulations. As directed by the supervisor, assist in reviewing applications for eligibility, assures that all necessary documents are on file according to policy or ordinance, notifies clients by mail for all approvals and/or denials, enter payment process by entering payment data, adjustments and assist in preparing the Payment transaction Record (PTR). Assist in verifying invoices/statements by matching up with pending purchase orders and researches files to determine if the patient was referred from one of the MNHS facilities and/or if the CHS has made a financial commitment. Assist with distributing CHS claims received in the central office. Assists with stamping all correspondence received, trace missing files and type indexing information on folders. As directed, provide coverage in answering main telephone directing incoming calls, taking/relaying messages, returning phone calls as requested and other related tasks. Regular attendance is required. Performs other duties as assigned.
