Job Description:
The Borough of Bryn Athyn is hiring a new Borough Secretary to assist the Manager with all clerical and secretarial duties in support of daily operations. The Borough of Bryn Athyn is a small, predominantly residential municipality in suburban Montgomery County, just outside Northeast Philadelphia, with a population of roughly 1,400 residents. Bryn Athyn covers only two square miles, and a great deal of that is preserved open space. Bryn Athyn has been a Home Rule Municipality since 1979, although its official name remains the Borough of Bryn Athyn. We support our community with Fire/EMS Service & Police, Public Works, and a sanitary sewage collection system and treatment plant. The Borough wishes to hire an individual that would assist us in navigating the future of our community, enhance our current capabilities, and provide for open and regular communication with our residents to improve and strengthen our relationship.
Activities Include:
Provide all clerical and administrative support for Borough operations as directed by the Borough Manager. Generate necessary reports, minutes and correspondence for President of Council, Borough Manager and other officials as directed. Oversees the maintenance and organization of Borough records including responsibility for public requests for information, required filing of annual, monthly and periodic reports and disposal of records compliance with state laws. Answers telephone calls as well as in-person inquiries at the Borough Office and provide information and follow-up as needed. Maintains records for Zoning Hearing Applications, preparing legal notices as required by law and practice. Assists in scheduling and coordination of public meetings and hearings for council and all Boards and Commissions. Collects fines and fees as required. Assists in the maintenance of financial and budget information including all bookkeeping duties for accounts payable and receivables/billing. Receives and inputs all information required for preparation of payroll insuring completion and filing of all associated reports and payments to various agencies. Processes, files and maintains paperwork on all insurance claims for the Borough. Opens and distributes mail as required. Performs related clerical duties as directed. Ad ditional
Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with experience in public or business administration, finance, planning or related field is required. Strong computer skills and knowledge of QuickBooks. Previous experience in a municipal role would be a plus. Experience with public budgeting, municipal finance, and strategic planning.
Benefits:
Comprehensive benefits with medical, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off. Standard office hours are five days a week, Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm. The Secretary might be asked to attend evening meetings monthly and be on-call as necessary outside business hours.
