Flexible, with one scheduled meeting per week •We are only looking to hire locals in the Fayetteville, NC area• About the Position Our company is looking for three Manuscript / Beta Readers to join our developing creative team. This position is for people who genuinely enjoy reading and are interested in helping improve stories before publication. As a Manuscript / Beta Reader, you will read works-in-progress and provide thoughtful feedback on the story from a reader's perspective. You do not need to be a professional editor or published author to apply. What You'll Do Read assigned chapters and manuscripts. Provide feedback on what works, what doesn't, and what could be improved. Identify plot holes, continuity issues, inconsistencies, confusing sections, and other story problems. Discuss your reactions, observations, and feedback during a weekly meeting. This is primarily a reader-feedback position , rather than a traditional proofreading or copyediting position. Your job is not simply to correct grammar. We want to understand your experience reading the story and learn where the manuscript succeeds or encounters problems. Schedule & Work Structure This is an independent contractor position with a flexible schedule . There are no traditional daily working hours. You will generally be able to decide when, where, and how you complete your reading , provided that agreed-upon reading assignments are completed on time. Work will likely be organized around a certain amount of reading each week, such as an agreed-upon number of chapters or sections. There will also be one scheduled meeting per week where we discuss the material you have read and go through your feedback. Because the schedule is flexible, this position may work well for high school students, college students, or individuals looking to work in the creative-field. Compensation Compensation is $400 per month .
Contractors may choose between:
$100 paid weekly , or $200 paid biweekly Qualifications The primary qualification is simple: You should read regularly and genuinely enjoy reading. We are particularly interested in applicants who: Enjoy fiction and storytelling. Pay attention to details and notice when something doesn't make sense. Can clearly explain their opinions and reactions to what they read. Are dependable, meet reading deadlines, and are comfortable discussing their feedback. Previous experience is not required. About the Role This is currently an experimental position within the company . We are introducing the Manuscript / Beta Reader role to determine how it fits into our long-term creative and development process. Because the position is new, some aspects of the workflow may evolve as we determine what works best for both the company and the readers. If the role proves successful, we may choose to establish it as a permanent, long-term position within the company.
