Job Description

The City of Camas Community Development Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Permit Technician. The individual selected will perform a variety of administrative support functions and report to the Building Official. The hours for this in-person position are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Upon completion of probationary period, a hybrid work schedule may be optional. The position is represented by the Camas Public Employees' Association and is eligible for a full benefits package. What You'll Do You will play a key role in supporting department operations, ensuring efficient administrative processes, and providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities may include:
Process land-use and building permit applications accurately and efficiently. Provide excellent customer service to residents, contractors, and other stakeholders. Explain City policies, procedures, and permitting requirements. Answer phones and respond to public inquiries professionally. Maintain and update permit tracking systems and County GIS records. Prepare residential and commercial certificates of occupancy. Support daily administrative operations with strong attention to detail. Candidates for this position shall have: Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in office procedures, or a related field. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience. Experience with Tyler Technologies' configuration systems, or similar permit tracking systems, is desirable. In addition to the job description requirements, the preferred candidate will possess the following attributes: positive attitude, ability to take initiative, excellent customer service skills, good verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills and flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed.
