Job Description
Required Education:
High School Diploma or EquivalentRequired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Working knowledge of business English
Familiarity with standard office practices, procedures, and filing systems
Ability to perform basic tabulation and arithmetic calculations
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public and internal staff
Ability to maintain accurate records and handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Experience working in a public-facing, customer service, or administrative support role
Experience in a government, healthcare, veterans' services, or cemetery environment
Familiarity with eligibility determinations, benefits processing, or application review processes
Proficiency with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic data systems
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to interact compassionately with veterans, family members, and the public
Experience supporting outreach activities, reporting, or community events
Administrative Assistant Job Responsibilities:
Responds to telephone, written, electronic, and in-person inquiries by providing information and assistance to the public, veterans, family members, representatives, and outside agencies; follows up as necessary
Performs eligibility determinations for individuals applying for or receiving cemetery-related benefits and services
Maintains knowledge of services, programs, and resources available through the cemetery; assists in the development and upkeep of reference and resource materials
Coordinates services and communicates with cemetery field staff to ensure appropriate support and follow-through for applicants and families
Serves as a liaison and advocate with service provider agencies; assists individuals with the completion of applications and required documentation
Conducts interviews in an office, on-site, or field setting, as required
Assists with the distribution of printed materials and informational resources
Supports the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical and informational reports
Receives, investigates, and documents complaints and concerns in accordance with established procedures
Participates in assigned outreach activities statewide, including information fairs, public meetings, identification card processing, and eligibility screenings
Performs related clerical and administrative duties as assigned
