Job Description
Provides technical, administrative, and clerical support to Okaloosa County Jail.
- The selected candidates will have the opportunity to attend the Correctional Officer Academy to become a Certified Correctional Officer. The cost of school is covered and you will be paid while attending The Academy.
- Provides information by phone or in person to the public regarding a variety of issues, which may include: charges, court dates, visiting hours, and/or other related items.
- Controls access into and out of designated areas; observes surveillance monitors and notifies appropriate individuals of suspicious activities and facility rule violations.
- Checks identification of persons entering/exiting controlled areas; monitors safety of staff, visitors, and inmates; generates work orders for inoperable equipment.
- Electronically logs pertinent information into the Jail Management Suite, video visitation software, and completes detailed incident reports.
- Assists other departmental employees by relaying instructions and requesting information.
- Performs Commissary duties which include; conducting inventory, preparing and processing of financial information, reviewing and finalizing bank transactions and reconciling discrepancies, as required.
- Recognizes and responds to emergencies by using the radio and/or telephone to summon assistance and managing access to the area of the emergency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of six (6) months' work experience; preferably in data processing and administrative support functions, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be at least 18 years of age, and be a citizen of the United States. Must be able to pass a background investigation and fingerprinting, which includes no felony convictions, no misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, or received dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Jail Management Systems preferred. Licenses and/orCertifications:
Requires a valid driver license.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including motor vehicle, computers, copy/fax machines and related peripherals. Must be able to exert 20 to 25 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires periodic walking and standing, with occasional bending and stooping. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary workLanguage Ability:
Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read and interpret a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job and with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgroundsIntelligence:
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.Numerical Aptitude:
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; to determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute discount, profit and loss, ratio and proportion.Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or public contact.
