Student Non-Exempt Summary:
The Mail Room Assistant supports the daily operations of the mailroom by sorting, logging and distributing incoming packages. This role provides excellent customer service to residents and staff while maintaining security and confidentiality of all services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive, sort, and distribute incoming packages to residents and staff. Log and track packages using mailroom software or manual logs as required. Assist residents in picking up packages, verifying identification before releasing items. Maintain a clean, organized, and secure mail room area. Provide accurate information and assistance regarding mail and package services to residents. Follow all mail/package handling procedures and guidelines to ensure the confidentiality and security of mail. Complete routine audits of received packages to ensure accuracy and accountability. Participate in training on mailroom operations and customer service. Perform periodic inventories of supplies and supervisor of supply needs. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Current student at the University of Akron GPA 2.0 per semester and cumulative Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication. Possess strong customer service skills. Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email. Ability to operate basic office equipment including computer, telephone, etc. Must be able to move/life up to 35 pounds.
Mail Room Assistant shifts are:
Monday-Thursday:
10:00am-7:00pm
Friday:
10:00am-5:00pm
Saturday:
11:00am-1:00pm This position is expected to work a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Work hours and shifts may vary during break periods (fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters) and University closures. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mid-to-high paced. The noise level is usually moderate. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
