BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for performing reception duties in an efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by your supervisor.
CHARACTERISTIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Receive and follow reception schedule/instructions from your supervisor and as outlined in our established policies and procedures. 2. Operate paging/telephone system as required. 3. Answer telephone, determine nature of call and relay information within the facility as necessary. 4. Receive inquires and release information in accordance with established policies and procedures. 5. Maintain a current file/list of residents by name and room number, emergency phone numbers of on-call personnel, department extensions, key personnel, etc. 6. Receive a request from within the facility and locate personnel through paging system. 7. Maintain a current listing of crucial residents and/or residents who may not receive phone calls due to their condition. 8. Give directions/information to visitors, guest, and residents, etc. 9. Reports suspicious persons/information to supervisor immediately. 10. Ensure guests abide by existing rules and refuse admission to persons as directed. 11. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. 12. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure resident's rights are protected. 13. Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when operating office equipment. 14. Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible. 15. Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions to your supervisor immediately. 16. Attend and participate in in-service and on the job training programs as directed. 17. Ensure that resident's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are followed. 18. Participate in the overall quality assessment and improvement program activities. 19. Is responsible for participation in the training program on the facility immunization program and in the annual vaccination campaign.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Assist with administrative duties as directed. 2. Ensure administrative supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary. 3. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved. 4. Ensure that work areas are neat, clean, and office equipment is covered before leaving areas, on breaks or at the end of the workday, etc. 5. Other related duties may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or Administrator.
EXPOSURE RISK
The Receptionist is at minimal risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direction provided by the Office Supervisor or as designated by the Facility Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma.
EXPERIENCE
None required. On the job training provided.
WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours. 2. Works in well lighted/ventilated office areas. 3. Subject to frequent interruptions. 4. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. 5. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs. 6 Subject to pressure from multiple/emergency calls. 7. May be subjected to infectious diseases, substances, and contaminated articles, etc. 8. Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department personnel.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS 1.
Must be able to read, write and understand the English language at an 8th grade level. 2. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action and to remain calm during emergency situations. 3. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public. 4. Be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character. 5. Must be knowledgeable of administrative practices, procedures, and guidelines. 6. Ability to work harmoniously with other personnel. 7. Ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc. 8. Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. 9. Be able to follow written and oral instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. 2. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. 3. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. 4. Must function independently, have person integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel. 5. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. 6. Must have a pleasant speaking voice.
