Job Description

Experienced Veterinary ReceptionistJob Summary Prickly Pear Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Receptionist to join our slightly chaotic, highly caffeinated, animal-loving team. Do you enjoy answering phones while checking in patients, scheduling appointments, locating a doctor, calming a nervous client, finding a missing cat carrier, and explaining why Fluffy shouldn't eat an entire pan of brownies—all at the same time? If so, you may be exactly who we're looking for. As the first face clients see and the first voice they hear, you'll be responsible for keeping the front desk running smoothly while helping us provide exceptional care to our patients. The ideal candidate possesses patience, organization, a sense of humor, and the ability to smile through the occasional "But Google said..." conversation. Daily Responsibilities Greet every client, patient, and occasional escaped dog with a friendly attitude. Answer phones, schedule appointments, and somehow keep the day from completely falling apart. Check patients in and out while accurately documenting medical information. Explain estimates, invoices, and treatment plans without accidentally sounding like a car warranty salesperson. Process payments and collect balances while maintaining your professional poker face. Handle prescription refill requests and answer questions such as: "Can my dog eat this?" "Why is my cat doing that?" "Can I send you a picture of his poop?" Communicate with doctors and technicians while translating veterinary terminology into normal human language. Keep records organized and accurate because "I thought I remembered" is not a medical record. Manage emails, voicemails, and client requests before they multiply. Provide emotional support to clients, patients, coworkers, and occasionally yourself. Qualifications Previous veterinary reception experience preferred. Ability to pronounce medications you've never heard of before. Comfortable around dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and the occasional pet that wakes up and chooses violence. Ability to multitask at a level that should probably qualify as an Olympic sport. Excellent communication skills and a sense of humor. Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain calm when everyone else is asking questions at the same time. Required Skills Customer service that remains friendly even after the 27th phone call of the morning. Organization skills that would impress a Border Collie. Ability to prioritize tasks while the schedule changes every five minutes. Basic veterinary terminology and medical knowledge. Computer proficiency and willingness to learn veterinary software. Ability to work well as part of a team and occasionally read minds. Bonus Points If You Can Find the chart everyone else swears they already looked for. Understand what a client means when they say, "He's just not acting right." Keep a straight face when someone tells you their dog definitely did not eat the missing steak. Explain for the hundredth time that Facebook is not a veterinary degree. Survive an entire Monday without saying, "Well, that's a new one." Benefits Competitive pay based on experience. Employee pet discounts because your pets know where your paycheck goes. Paid time off. Continuing education opportunities. Daily entertainment provided by patients and clients at no additional cost. A team that works hard, laughs often, and occasionally survives on caffeine and sheer determination. If you're looking for a career where no two days are ever the same, where you'll make a difference in the lives of pets and their people, and where you'll collect enough stories to write a book someday, we'd love to meet you. Please supply at least 2 references that are not family
