Shift Premium:
Additional $2.50/hour for evening, overnight, and weekend hours
Full-time Schedule:

Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board's BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center as a Receptionist in Hampton, VA. In this on-site position, you'll be part of a team committed to providing supportive services to individuals living with a developmental disability, substance use disorder, mental health diagnosis , or who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. ABOUT US
Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders. We proudly opened the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center in April 2025 to increase access to services for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. BJ Roberts is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.
WHAT'S YOUR DAY LIKE?
As a Receptionist, you're the first impression - the person who sets the tone when someone walks through the door or picks up the phone. Whether it's a client, visitor, or public official, you'll be there to greet them with professionalism, warmth, and care. Your day will include answering and directing calls through a multiline phone system, keeping accurate and up-to-date records, and making sure everyone who reaches out gets the right information and support. Beyond the front desk, your presence will help create a calming, welcoming environment for individuals facing life's toughest challenges, including those navigating developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or substance use disorders. You'll handle everyday tasks independently, using sound judgment, patience, and compassion. You'll also keep the lobby neat and inviting, making sure plants are cared for and materials are organized to reflect the respectful, client-centered space we strive to maintain.

To qualify for this position, candidates must have the following: One (1) year of experience in a receptionist, customer service, or administrative support role within a sensitive and professional work environment, such as healthcare or social services.
