Harvey Way, Hampton, VA 23668 Job Type Full-Time Department Admissions Opening Date 07/17/2025 Description The Receptionist for the Office of Admission serves as the first and most important point of contact for prospective students, families, campus visitors, and university stakeholders. This position requires a warm, professional presence, excellent communication abilities, and strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate will deliver an exceptional first impression while efficiently supporting the administrative and event-related operations of the Admissions Office. Examples of Duties Greeting all guests in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner. Answer incoming calls with clarity and professionalism; respond to general inquiries and route calls appropriately to Admissions Counselors, Processors, Assistant Directors, or the Dean. Maintain a helpful, positive demeanor in all in-person and phone interactions. Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in the planning, preparation, and execution of high-impact recruitment events. Demonstrate strong punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail in all duties. Provide exceptional customer service to all visitors, students, parents, and staff. Remain composed and courteous under pressure, especially during periods of high call volume or foot traffic. Ensure a professional tone and polished appearance are always maintained. Typical Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain organized in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role. Professional, approachable appearance and demeanor. Familiarity with college admissions processes or higher education environments is a plus. Supplemental Information Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and DocuSign for routine clerical and document management tasks.
