Job Description

Job Overview The Laurel Center is dedicated to making a positive impact on our community by providing essential services to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. In 2020 The Laurel Center introduced an Economic Empowerment Program to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence to gain living wage employment. The cornerstone of our Empowerment Center is The Railway Cafe. We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic and experienced Counter Person to join our team at the Railway Café. the Cafe provides soft skill development and job readiness training to participants of our Empowerment Center. In addition, you will contribute to providing an exceptional dining experience for our customers. Position Summary Welcome to the Railway Café, where we're all about creating delightful experiences in the heart of Winchester, Virginia. In this role, you will be the face of our business, greeting customers with a smile, and ensuring they have a fantastic experience from the moment they walk in. As the Counter Person, you'll be instrumental in building our reputation for exceptional hospitality, offering efficient service, and showcasing our delicious menu offerings. This position provides a great opportunity to be part of a supportive and lively team that thrives on making every customer feel welcome while training essential soft skills to participants of The Laurel Center's Workforce Development Center. Embark on this rewarding journey with us at The Railway Café, where your positivity and friendly demeanor will be the key to our success. Essential Tasks Greet customers warmly as they enter the establishment and ensure their needs are met promptly and courteously. Assist in training and mentoring waitstaff: offering ongoing oversight and support to ensure high-quality service, adherence to café standards, and a cohesive, team-oriented work environment. Accurately record customer orders, whether by phone, online orders, or seated guests, and accurately enter into the point-of-sale system. Manage transactions at the cash register with precision, providing customers with the correct change and receipt. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all dining and counter spaces meet health and safety standards. Bus tables when necessary. Stay informed of current menu offerings and promotions to accurately describe and suggest menu items to customers. Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and workforce development participants to deliver a seamless customer experience. Qualifications Prior customer service or hospitality experience with strong verbal communication skills for effective interaction with customers and team members. A friendly and approachable demeanor, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for all guests and team members. Ability to understand and respond to customer needs, ensuring a positive dining experience. Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment, ability to multi-task supporting/training participants, and working efficiently during high-volume times. Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, if needed. Aptitude for handling customer inquiries and resolving issues promptly and efficiently utilizing your excellent problem solving skills. Capable of standing for long periods of time and handling the physical demands of the role. $43,000.00 - $46,300.00 per year
