Job Description

Switchboard Operator Position Summary Receives and relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls for the facility. Provides directory information, transfers calls as appropriate. Make general and emergency announcements over the facility s PA system. Handles the facility paging system and the beeper system. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Prior switchboard or high-volume telephone experience preferred. Education High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Certifications/Licensure None required. Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time. Receives incoming calls, determines nature of the call and transfers to appropriate locations. Provides directory information to internal and external inquirers. Locates physicians and hospital staff through use of the intercom system or beepers. Pages emergency codes such as Code Blue, Code Red, internal and external disaster codes and other codes as appropriate. Applies knowledge of policies and procedures related to each code and the appropriate on call staff. Assists the Security Department in locating visitors and parking violators by use of the PA system. Knows the location of physicians and hospital staff and their department or area of expertise. Maintains knowledge of services available in the facility.
