Telephone Operator (FH) 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars Job Description Operates
Provides telephone and room numbers, as required. Places local and long distance calls requested by authorized staff and logs them as they occur. Logs patient information on telephone authorization forms.
Maintains alphabetical patient logbook as well as current critical and expiration lists. Performs various communications and/or emergency activities. Pages authorized personnel overhead, announces close of visiting hours, and other notifications as required. Sends telegrams when requested by authorized Hospital staff, i.e., Administration, Directors, Physicians, Nursing Supervisors, etc. Makes notifications involved with cardiac arrest, fire alarms, disasters, beeper pages, etc. Monitors all trouble alarms, pages and logs all emergency codes; takes appropriate action relative to such alarms and emergencies. Answers general, non-confidential questions of callers in a courteous fashion, according to Administrative policy. Calls the floors to ascertain or give information regarding patient room changes, etc. Answers the TTY (phone for the deaf) in a prompt manner. Notifies New York Telephone Company Repair Service of all telephone repair problems, logs calls in repair book, and advises Supervisor of such repair calls. Notifies management when beeper or overpaging system malfunctions, logs such malfunctioning and reports same to beeper company or maintenance contractor for overhead page system. Maintains various records, files, and cards, as required. Performs related duties, as required. ADA Essential Functions Job Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Some computer and administrative experience, desired. Ability to communicate effectively. Additional Salary Detail The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

CONSOLE and performs communication activities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Performs various clerical duties. Job Responsibility Operates Telephone console. Answers incoming calls promptly on the Hospital main number and calls for the Operator and extends them to the appropriate extension number.Provides telephone and room numbers, as required.
