GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Works closely with supervisors to assist customers and dealers in registering and/or titling motor vehicles. Collects Motor Vehicle taxes, checks license registration, issues auto tags, works with public, and posts and balances account daily. Works and or performs almost exclusively within the ever-changing confines and perimeters of any and all statutory laws, rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles in accordance with the registration and titling of motor vehicles. As well as a vast array of other motor vehicle operational items, necessary to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with the Texas Transportation Code. Also works within all accepted County tax office motor vehicle policies and operational practices that are in place to assist with these very tasks being provided in an efficient, timely and courteous manner to the public. ?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assists customers in registering and/or titling motor vehicles.
  • Performs motor vehicle title work requiring transfer of ownership from person-to-person or from dealer-to-person.
  • Issues permits, temporary "tags", and handicapped placards.
  • Provides registration, title forms, and documents to customers.
  • Performs license plate inventories.
  • Performs license plate renewals.
  • Performs vehicle title rejections.
  • Receives, receipts, and documents financial transactions.
  • Performs accurate handling of cash and checks on a daily basis, reconciles and balances accounts at the end of each day. Receives, receipts, and documents financial transactions.
  • Manages the mail and contacts people.
  • Uses a calculator (10 key).
  • Provides courteous and friendly customer service at all times.
  • Answers the telephone using proper business telephone etiquette, courtesy, and friendliness.
  • Administratively supports all other Tax Collector Assessor offices, co-workers, and supervisors in their daily activities and maintains a close and highly responsive business relationship.
  • Properly and discretely handles and protects confidential and sensitive information.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Some experiences and skill in general office work.
  • Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of applicable mainframe systems and applications.
  • Must be able to type and input data into a computer with minimal errors.
  • Must be able to proficiently use typewriters and calculators (10 key).
  • Must be able to read, compare, and transfer legal information accurately and in detail.
  • Must be able to conduct self in a professional manner, develop, and maintain good working relationships and rapport with the public, co-workers, supervisors, department heads, and County officials.
  • Must be able communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug test paid by Wichita County.
  • Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by Wichita County.
  • Deals extensively with the public and have the ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Performs repetitive tasks daily.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move loads such as boxes of license plates weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel and attend overnight training and education courses.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is helpful, but not required.
  • All Wichita County Offices are non-smoking environments.
