Job Description
Provide grounds support to the Director in the following areas: Assist with grounds operation in absence of the Director, maintain assigned area of campus and student crew, perform grounds maintenance, sprinkler installation, landscaping, and snow removal. Ensure pedestrian safety in accordance with use of utility carts, tree and debris removal, and any other hazards which could pose a safety risk to pedestrians. Apply pesticides and herbicides when necessary and complete projects using heavy equipment. Work with EPA and OSHA on requirements for health and safety of personnel, and work, as well as independently, in a team effort.
Date of first consideration:
04/08/2026. Perform Grounds maintenance work consisting of mowing lawns; trimming hedges; raking and disposing of leaves and refuse; trimming driveways and sidewalk edges; preparing gardens for planting; planting flowers, trees, shrubs, and grass; pruning trees and shrubbery; and designing and maintaining sprinkler systems. Assist with Grounds operation in absence of the Director, and oversee a student landscape crew in assigned area. Diagnose turf and water usage problems, along with implementing and tracking water conservation measures. Oversee campus Central Computer Irrigation system. (Maxi-com), as assigned. Ensure compliance with safe work practices as outlined by campus standards and OSHA regulations. Keep and update records pertaining to all grounds work. Be familiar with Safety Data Sheets. Oversee herbicide and pesticide application, and repair and maintain chemical application equipment. Perform snow removal using snowplow, trucks, and other equipment, keeping sidewalks and roads clear of snow and ice by shoveling walks and steps and spreading sand and ice-melt. Collect and dispose of litter and waste materials and be responsible for projects and areas as assigned by Director. Operate backhoe, loader, boom truck, mowers, tractors, trucks and other grounds equipment. Account for tree evaluations and overall health of campus trees. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualififcations High School or GED. Demonstrated leadership qualities, strong human relations and customer service abilities, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the following State and Federal regulations:OSHA, EPA, MSDS
Interaction with: University faculty and staff, Students, Local community members, vendors, and visitors Proficient computer operation skills such as e-mail, word-processing, spreadsheets, electronic equipment automation, internet navigation, etc. Must be in good physical condition and be able to lift and carry 60 pounds for 50 yards. Must have a valid Utah driver's license. Basic understanding of blue prints, construction, electrical, and hydraulics. Three years progressively responsible experience in grounds or landscape work or college experience and on the job experience combined to equal three years. Knowledge of plant problems and disease and how to treat. Knowledge of landscape materials, fertilizers, and chemicals is essential. Preferred Qualifications Associates Degree Two years of experience in chemical application preferred. Computer knowledge is preferred.
