This position will report directly to a Resort in La Jolla, CA with a schedule from Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm This On-site Horticulture Specialist Gardner will be responsible for hands-on garden maintenance of landscapes on a premier client site located in La Jolla. Ideal candidate will have experience in Southern California gardening, turf grass and sustainable gardening practices. Must be a garden enthusiast who enjoys all aspects of horticulture and outdoor gardening. Responsibilities of this position will include, but not limited to : Perform pruning, weed removal, turf grass maintenance, light repair of irrigation systems and pest and diseases application Day to day gardening alongside crew members Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with guests and clients to educate them about the specific plants in the garden/property. Skills & experience that are necessary as a Horticulture Specialists will include, but not limited to: Experience and knowledge with care and needs of CA landscapes, work experience with various gardening methods, tools and turf maintenance in a resort environment. Ability to talk about plants to general public, use hand tools, such as pruning shears, load and operate a blower for long periods of time, use a hand rake for long periods of time, operate of a motor vehicle, must have CA Driver's license Associates degree or higher in Horticulture related field is preferred Bilingual (Spanish) a plus, able to work eight hours or more per day, with breaks necessary, for 5 days a week (it may require working overtime & on the weekends), able to work under direct sunlight for long periods of time, able to carry 40 pounds (bags of fertilizer, mulch, etc.), able to load / unload a trailer full of burlaps up to 50 pounds, able to bend, stoop and twist throughout the day Physical Requirements In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
