Job Description

requiresgluingThe weather750-square-footThis position is a paid apprenticeship lasting for 6 months. Applicant needs to be able to work up to 12 hours a week, and have a can-do excitement towards working with bees. Bird and Bee Hawaii is a woman‐owned apiary located in Honoka'a on the Island of Hawaii. For more information, please go here: birdandbeehawaii.com. Bird and Bee Hawaii is located on 5 acres and is made up of a 750 square foot educational facility and a 35-hive apiary in Ahualoa, located at an altitude of 2400 feet. The apiary is located on a small farm with other animals such as goats, sheep and chickens. Bird and Bee Hawaii's goal is to provide a safe and educational atmosphere for students of all ages to learn about the importance of bees and beekeeping. We focus on creating the best environment available for people to learn about pollinators and the benefit they have to Hawaii's agriculture.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The site environment is at an altitude of 2400 feet. Weather can vary each day from rain to sun. Duties are varied and require a majority of time working outside in different types of weather. Maintaining apiary equipment (building, painting, glueing, cleaning, lifting up to 50lbs) Learning about bees and teaching others about bees in an informal setting. Training will be provided. Maintaining hives with a lot of practice and guidance. Weeding/ Maintaining trees/ general maintenance ‐ weeding and weed whacking around hives and expanded learning area. Assisting with equipment available for sale. Coordinating and assisting with visiting groups at the apiary. Assisting with general documents and documentation around the apiary. Helping with social media posts. Everything else that might come up at an apiary.
