Job Duties:
Crops:
Corn Corn Detassling:
Workers will walk along assigned row of seed corn and remove remaining tassels from stalks on both sides of row. Care must be taken to remove tassel completely without damaging stalks. Perform any other duties involved in detasselling and rogueing of seed corn and maintenance of fields and production areas. Workers may use shovels, provided by employer at no cost to the worker to perform this task. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. The worker will walk down the aisles between the plants in the corn fields, for the purpose of detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields. The worker will also be sorting corn on conveyer belts, load silage on trucks, control machines being used in the process of sorting, storing and shipping seed corn.
Corn/Soybean Rogueing & Weeding:
Workers will walk seed fields to identify and remove rogue plants and discard them as directed. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside in all kinds of weather and be in a possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands repeatedly. Workers that qualify may be required to operate Agriculture Machinery and farm vehicles to haul corn from the field to the indoor pack house on the farm. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employers products and property.
Sanitation Requirements:
For food and general personal safety purposes, all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitary and GAP practices at all times. This is particularly critical when hand harvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required to cleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom and before entering fields or for harvest activities of the packing facility for packing operations. Workers will perform various duties all associated with cultivation and harvesting corn. Workers will also clean, grade, sort pack and load harvested crops on the farm. Worker will place, not drop, product into harvest container and when full carry container to the designated area and either exchange for empty container or empty container then return to row and repeat process.
