What they do
A Farm, Nursery, or Greenhouse Worker propagates, cultivates and harvests plants, primarily flowers, trees, shrubs and sod, and other crops such as mushrooms that are grown in greenhouses, or grows and harvests farm crops such as grain, fruit or vegetables. Operates and maintains equipment used to grow and harvest plants and crops. Cares for animals including dairy cows or chickens, pigs or other animals raised for meat.

Job Description
The Sow Herdsmen is responsible for providing excellent and comprehensive animal care and entire breeding life cycle of our swine herd under the direction of the Department Head and Farm Manager. In this role you should expect to: Work in a cohesive team environment to provide excellent daily, essential care to swine herdAssist with farrowing, breeding and gestationMove animals using safe handling practicesWean pigs according to farm protocolsLoad and unload pigs as scheduledProvide proactive and responsive care to promote wellness amongst herdAdhere to all bio-security standards (ex. showering in and out of facilities)Help ensure cleanliness and sanitation of work area Work weekend and holiday hours as required on a rotational basisChampion a Safety cultureFollow all company policy and proceduresCarry out other duties as assigned What you'll need to succeed in this role: Animal care experience preferred but not requiredWork under limited supervisionDemonstrate independent decision-making skills in a fast-paced work environmentAttention to detailExcellent communication skillsReliable and dependable transportation to get to and from work located in a rural area Physical requirements of this role: Ability to stand/kneel/bend/stoop/walk for extended periods of time (8-10 hours a day)Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 30 lbs frequentlyMust be able to work around pigs Must be able to work in dusty environments and extreme hot/cold conditionsAble to work a weekly schedule with rotating weekends and holidays While no job description can anticipate or encompass all the duties required by the job, this description is designed to give a general understanding of job expectations.
