Qualified candidates will be responsible for managing and cultivating fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and ornamental plants. This position requires greenhouse work, including use of timing and metering devices to control the frequency, amount, and type of nutrient applications, regulating humidity, ventilation, temperature, and light, and dispensing fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides. Monitors crop development and the removal of substandard plants to maintain quality standards. The manager will maintain ongoing communication and provide status updates with the Property Manager and the homeowners. This includes maintenance and upkeep, necessary repairs/replacements, and related issues. The position will collaborate with contractors/vendors servicing the gardens and the greenhouse. They will ensure the work aligns with the homeowner's expectations and provide updates, as necessary. The manager will meet with the Property Manager and homeowners to discuss current and future projects, prioritize the work, and ensure updates are provided and communicated regularly. They will review the goals, needs, and expectations of projects with the homeowners to ensure a clear understanding. They will keep the manager and homeowners updated to ensure a clear line of ongoing communication. Key Responsibilities Plant Cultivation & Care:
Propagate, water, prune, and monitor plants to ensure optimal growth.
Plant Maintenance:
Perform advanced plant care: grow, vegetatively and by seed; transplant; stake; train; disbud; pinch; prune; and harvest.
Climate & Irrigation:
Monitor and adjust temperature, humidity, lighting, and ventilation in the greenhouse. Prepare and monitor fertilizer injectors, pH, related nutrients, and proper watering.
Soil & Nutrient Management:
Test soil quality, balance pH levels, and create customized fertilizer mixtures for specific plants.
Pest & Disease Control:
Proven competence in scouting pests, identifying diseases, and applying biological control or chemical treatments within an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.
Equipment Management:
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot greenhouse equipment, including irrigation lines, misting systems, and blackout or shade curtains.
Physical Requirements:
Able to regularly work from a ladder to hang lamps, blackout curtains, etc.; climb under various types of equipment; shovel dense materials; regularly lift over 50 pounds; work in high-temperature conditions and with a wide range of plant material.
Research & Development:
Conduct experiments to develop new plant varieties that are better adapted to various climates or are resistant to diseases. Monitor and adjust the greenhouse and growth chamber environment, including temperature, airflow, and lighting - manually and/or using automated controls. Maintain greenhouse, growth chambers, gardens and work areas in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Anticipate plant growth needs and potential problems and work with the manager and the homeowners to attain satisfactory outcomes. Notify of repairs/replacements or upgrades that need to be addressed. Personal Requirements Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions necessary to identify a wide variety of conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects, etc. Feel comfortable sharing ideas on how to run the gardens and the greenhouse efficiently and what your needs are to be able to do the job to the best of your ability. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, e-mail, and web browsers to create plant care notes and reports; maintain inventory and pest management records; research plant cultural and pest control information. Excellent communication with homeowners, property managers, and other employees. Exhibit good organizational skills and close attention to detail.
