Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Horticulturist to join our client's team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant care, landscape maintenance, and horticultural best practices. This position is responsible for the cultivation, maintenance, and overall health of trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and other plant materials across a variety of landscapes and garden environments. The Horticulturist will work independently and as part of a team to ensure properties are maintained to the highest standards while promoting plant health, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Key Responsibilities Monitor, maintain, and improve the health and appearance of ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf. Perform planting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, watering, and transplanting activities. Diagnose plant health issues, including pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stressors, and recommend corrective actions. Develop and implement seasonal planting and maintenance schedules. Identify plant species and recommend appropriate selections based on site conditions and project requirements. Operate and maintain horticultural tools, equipment, and irrigation systems safely and effectively. Apply fertilizers, soil amendments, and pest management treatments in accordance with industry standards and regulations. Assist with landscape enhancement projects, garden installations, and special horticultural initiatives. Maintain accurate records of plant inventories, maintenance activities, and treatment applications. Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and environmental regulations. Provide guidance and support to team members and clients regarding plant care and landscape management practices. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of professional horticulture, landscaping, nursery, greenhouse, botanical garden, or related experience required. Strong knowledge of plant identification, plant health care, soil science, irrigation systems, and integrated pest management practices. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency with standard horticultural tools and equipment. Requirements Valid driver's license required Ability to travel between job sites as needed. High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or certification in horticulture, plant science, landscape management, or a related field preferred. Pesticide applicator license or industry certifications are a plus. Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
