Part-Time Orchard & Garden Caretaker /
Master Gardener Location:

Schedule:
Part-time, approximately 5-20 hours per week
Compensation:
$25-$35/hour depending on experience

This role has the potential to grow into a full-time position as the gardens and landscape develop. About the Role We are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented plant person to help care for and develop a young edible and ornamental landscape. The property currently includes a newly planted 150-tree orchard , along with grape vines, kiwi berries, roses, and other experimental plantings . Over time, the landscape will continue to grow into a fuller garden system with ornamental gardens, edible gardens, medicinal gardens, and a greenhouse . This is a hands-on role for someone who loves plants deeply and wants to help bring bountiful gardens to life. The right person will be excited by soil, weather, fruit trees, vines, flowers, herbs, and the long-term process of building a beautiful, abundant, useful landscape. This position could be a wonderful fit for a Master Gardener, horticulture student, horticulturist, orchard caretaker, edible garden specialist, or someone with strong hands-on plant experience . About the Gardens Our long-term vision is to create gardens that are beautiful, productive, and useful. The future landscape will include edible plants, medicinal plants, ornamental plantings, and greenhouse growing. The medicinal gardens will also help influence a future product line centered on simple, minimal-ingredient infusions and skin care products made from plants grown on the property. We are interested in plants as nourishment, medicine, beauty, and ritual. We are looking for someone who is excited to help shape that vision from the ground up.
Responsibilities Responsibilities may include:
Caring for a young orchard of approximately 150 fruit trees Maintaining grape vines, kiwi berries, roses, and other edible and ornamental plantings Monitoring plant health and identifying signs of stress, pests, disease, nutrient deficiency, or weather damage Testing soil and recommending fertilization, amendments, and care plans accordingly Pruning trees, vines, roses, and shrubs as needed and seasonally appropriate Checking weather conditions and helping protect tender or experimental plants from frost, heat, wind, drought, and other stressors Watering, mulching, weeding, feeding, and supporting plant establishment Helping develop systems for seasonal maintenance, plant records, and long-term garden care Supporting future planning for ornamental gardens, edible gardens, medicinal gardens, and greenhouse growing Communicating clearly about what the plants need, what you notice, and what should happen next Ideal Candidate The right person will have: A deep passion for plants, especially fruit trees, edible plants, herbs, flowers, berries, vines, roses, and medicinal plants Experience or strong interest in orchard care, pruning, soil health, compost, amendments, and seasonal garden care Curiosity about greenhouse growing, medicinal plants, and plant-based product development Comfort working outdoors in changing weather A watchful, intuitive eye for plant health Strong follow-through and the ability to work independently Interest in helping build something long-term, abundant, and beautiful Master Gardener certification, horticulture studies, horticulture training, orchard experience, or equivalent hands-on knowledge preferred Experience with cold-climate gardening, young orchards, or experimental plantings is a major plus This Role Is For You If You get excited about fruit trees, berry vines, roses, herbs, and greenhouse dreams. You notice when leaves curl, when soil needs attention, when a plant is asking for support. You enjoy the rhythm of seasonal care and the slow architecture of a garden coming into its own. We are looking for someone who wants to help make bountiful gardens real, with hands in the soil, eyes on the weather, and a genuine love for plants. Schedule & Compensation This is a part-time position requiring approximately 5-20 hours per week , depending on season, weather, plant needs, and project phase. Pay is $25-$35/hour depending on experience , with potential for increased hours and eventual full-time growth as the landscape develops.
