Horticultural Specialist Working Title Irrigation Specialist Competency Level Advanced Home Department Landscaping - 35211 Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Landscape Services Unit is part of the Physical Plant Department, Business Affairs Division. The unit provides support with maintenance, development and operation of all University grounds, performs skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance and upkeep of landscape, roads, and parking areas. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions, even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor. Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Irrigation Specialist manages the university's irrigation systems and ensures the proficient and effective operation of these systems.
Responsibilities include:
Provides direction for all repairs for campus irrigation systems General maintenance of systems Design and installation of new, in-house irrigation systems Management, coordination and inspection of contracted installations Conducting reviews of outside irrigation designers and delivering support to general grounds maintenance Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires North Carolina Pesticide License and North Carolina Commercial Driver's License. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Horticulture knowledge specific to southeastern North Carolina. Experience with installation and troubleshooting traditional and two-wire irrigation systems. NC Irrigation Contractors License preferred; or Carolina Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Technician preferred. Required Certifications or licensure Valid NC Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
