Our guests can touch and feed stingrays, birds and reptiles, see sharks, clownfish, angelfish, enjoy play equipment, and water play tables! We also host special events featuring mermaids, pirates, and dive shows. We're passionate about blowing kids' minds and inspiring love for ALL animals! Position Overview The Husbandry Team is vital to Blue Zoo's success. We offer incredible animal interaction opportunities, and our Husbandry Team Members ensure all animals receive exceptional care across our diverse collection. This role requires someone with a Ready to Rock! mentality - passionate about animal care and ready to go above and beyond to ensure our animals get the best possible care. This position is designed to create operational redundancy and flexibility, requiring someone who can adapt between different animal care environments while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare. Core Responsibilities Daily Animal Care
  • Provide comprehensive daily care for saltwater marine animals, freshwater species, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates
  • Monitor animal health, behavior, and environmental conditions across all exhibits
  • Prepare and distribute appropriate diets for diverse animal collection
  • Maintain accurate care records and health documentation
  • Recognize and address disease issues promptly Exhibit & Facility Maintenance
  • Perform daily maintenance of animal exhibits and life support systems
  • Monitor and maintain water quality parameters for aquatic systems
  • Set up and maintain terrestrial exhibits including lighting, heating, humidity systems
  • Keep behind-the-scenes areas clean and organized
  • Assist with exhibit design and preparation of new display environments Guest Interaction & Education
  • Perform public presentations and feeding demonstrations for large groups
  • Handle animals safely during guest interactions with enthusiasm and energy
  • Provide knowledgeable information about animals and their habitats
  • Maintain professional, enthusiastic demeanor with guests and media
  • Strive to make a positive impact on, inspire, and bring joy to all guests Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with Location Manager and Director of Husbandry
  • Collaborate by sharing knowledge and learning from others
  • Assist colleagues across all animal care areas as needed
  • Participate in training programs and professional development
  • Support special events and programs
  • Be accountable for behaviors, actions, and contributions Required Qualifications Experience & Education
  • Minimum 2-3 years hands-on experience with reptiles (including safe handling of various species)
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, Biology, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent professional or volunteer experience may be substituted
  • Demonstrated experience with animal husbandry and exhibit maintenance Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Positive attitude and outgoing personality - we believe in keeping things light and bringing energy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining team-first mentality
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Physical capability to lift up to 60 lbs multiple times daily
  • Ability to see, hear, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods; will be required to climb ladders and work on and around enclosures. Cultural Fit

  • Reliable and dependable attendance Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with both saltwater and freshwater aquatic systems
  • Knowledge of bioactive terrarium setup and maintenance
  • Plumbing and electrical experience
  • Previous public speaking or educational program experience
  • Experience with multiple animal taxa (fish, reptiles, birds, invertebrates)
  • Dive certification for aquatic exhibit maintenance What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly wage: $16.00 - $21.50 based on experience

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on multiple occasions daily
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (wet, humid, temperature variations)
  • Comfortable handling diverse animals including reptiles, marine life, and birds
