OVERVIEW
Redeemer Valley Farm encompasses an (80) member community garden, a micro goat dairy along with a farm market garden. The Farm practices regenerative agriculture. As a Farm community, we believe regeneration begins at the roots - in the soil, community, and in consciousness. It is a daily invitation to each of us to live in deeper relationship to the care of Earth and each other, which is also consistent with the Redeemer Sisters' mission.
SUMMARY OF JOB
This is a Full-time / Part-time opportunity to work at Redeemer Valley Farm, a ministry of the Sisters of the Redeemer in Huntingdon Valley, PA. Under the supervision of the Lead Farmer, the Gardens Assistant will support all aspects of vegetable production at the market garden site. This role includes assisting with infrastructure improvements, farm market sales, and CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture). Responsibilities encompass transplant production, planting, watering, weeding, soil amendment, and general crop maintenance. Additionally, the Gardens Assistant will participate in harvesting, washing, packing, and distributing produce through CSA shares, farm market sales, and community events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Lead Farmer with irrigation, weeding, orchard and native garden maintenance, composting, harvesting, pest management, seeding, greenhouse propagation, general farm maintenance, and record keeping. Prepare and plant beds per the crop plan. Support with integrated pest management on the farm. Support with landscaping, tree care, and chicken care. Support with weed mitigation. Support with raised bed care and vermicomposting. Inspect farm buildings and grounds for damage, needed repairs, security, and safety hazards and report to the Lead Farmer. Assist with routine cleaning/maintenance of chicken coop, goat/sheep pens, rabbit hutches and cats. Maintain equipment, tractor, shed, and field organization, and safety protocols. Perform other related duties as assigned.
RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
Methods and equipment used in regenerative organic farming Methods, materials, and equipment used in groundskeeping Integrated pest management
Irrigation:
drip, overhead, valves, and repair General maintenance work Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy Ability to: Perform strenuous farming tasks, including lifting, carrying, and digging Use farming equipment Have a valid PA driver's license
