Position Information We are seeking an extension assistant who is responsible for carrying out various tasks associated implementing various field experiments in row crops and forages. This position will assist a team in field preparation, planting, in-season management, harvest, and data collection in a wide variety of crop species in South Texas.
Responsibilities:
Assists with program and outreach efforts. Produces and or delivers presentations Assists in the initiation of applied research studies, collects, and processes data and generates reports. Operate tractors, chemical applicators, and harvest equipment in a safe and efficient manner for a variety of crops. Complete basic maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. With supervision and training, process samples and collect date from field experiments. Assist in maintaining facilities and farm infrastructure. Assist with field day and other outreach events for stakeholders and industry partners. Keep detailed records of field activities and data collected.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Preferred Experience:
Two years of experience in agricultural field operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to operate tractors and other basic farm equipment. Knowledge of basic maintenance and minor repairs of farm equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Experience:
Experience conducting applied research in row crops. Experience working with GPS guidance. Proficiency with basic statistical methods analyzing data from field experiments. Required licenses or certifications for this position: Ability to obtain and maintain a Texas Pesticide Applicator License.
