Role The Propagation Technician is a hands-on production position responsible for supporting the daily operation of Perennial Favorites' Young Plants program, including vegetative propagation, seeding, stock plants, and young plant crop care. Working under the direction of the Propagation Manager, the Propagation Technician performs skilled horticultural and production work to meet weekly production targets and maintain healthy, consistent young plant crops. This position requires regular physical work in greenhouse and outdoor growing environments and works alongside the propagation team to complete production priorities as needed. Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Propagation & Seeding Production a) Complete assigned propagation and seeding work according to weekly production schedules and direction from the Propagation Manager. b) Receive, inspect, process, and prepare incoming unrooted cuttings and other propagation material. c) Prepare trays, media, labels, seed, treatments, and other materials needed for propagation and seeding. d) Perform technical propagation work and assist with sticking cuttings when needed to meet production targets. e) Operate seeding equipment and follow established seed-treatment and germination procedures. f) Verify varieties, quantities, labels, tray configurations, and other production information for accuracy. g) Pinch, trim, clean, space, consolidate, sort, move, and prepare young plants as needed throughout the production cycle. 2. Young Plant Crop Care & Plant Health a) Monitor propagation and young plant crops for water needs, rooting, germination, development, and overall crop quality. b) Water and maintain young plant crops according to established practices and direction from the Propagation Manager. c) Monitor crops for insects, diseases, nutritional problems, environmental stress, and other crop concerns and report findings promptly. d) Assist the Propagation Manager with fungicide, insecticide, biological product, plant growth regulator, and other crop-treatment applications as directed. e) Assist with preparation, application, cleanup, and recordkeeping associated with crop treatments according to established procedures. f) Mix fertilizer at designated injection points according to established programs and direction from the Propagation Manager. g) Perform routine EC, pH, and other water or media testing as assigned. h) Monitor mist, irrigation, and fertilizer injection systems and report problems or unusual readings. i) Follow pesticide labels, PPE requirements, safety procedures, and application requirements when assisting with crop treatments. 3. Stock Plant Program a) Assist the Propagation Manager with the day-to-day care and maintenance of stock plants used for vegetative propagation. b) Monitor stock plants for water needs, plant health, pests, diseases, nutrition, and overall crop quality. c) Prune, pinch, trim, clean, space, and maintain stock plants according to established schedules and protocols. d) Harvest and prepare cutting material from stock plants as directed. e) Assist with stock plant inventory, labeling, crop locations, replacements, and production records. f) Apply assigned crop treatments and assist with fertility and irrigation of stock plants. g) Follow sanitation and plant-handling procedures intended to maintain clean, healthy stock material. 4. Protocols & Process Improvement a) Follow established propagation, seeding, stock plant, crop-care, and sanitation protocols accurately and consistently. b) Develop a strong working knowledge of crop-specific protocols and production processes. c) Record rooting, germination, crop losses, and other production observations as required. d) Communicate when crop performance differs from established expectations or protocols. e) Participate in propagation trials and process-improvement projects as directed by the Propagation Manager. f) Contribute practical ideas and observations that may improve propagation success, plant quality, consistency, workflow, and production efficiency. g) Assist with documenting and implementing updated protocols and procedures. 5. Inventory, Sanitation & Organization a) Assist with maintaining accurate Young Plant, stock plant, and seed inventory. b) Receive seed into inventory and accurately record seed usage. c) Maintain accurate crop quantities, locations, stages, labels, and production records. d) Record and communicate crop losses and inventory discrepancies. e) Prepare young plant material for transfer into finished production as directed. f) Maintain clean and organized propagation houses, seeding areas, stock areas, workstations, coolers, storage areas, and equipment. g) Clean and sanitize benches, trays, tools, equipment, and work areas according to established sanitation procedures. h) Maintain propagation supplies and communicate material needs to the Propagation Manager. 6. Teamwork & Professional Expectations a) Work cooperatively with the Propagation Manager, Young Plants team, part-time propagation crew, and other departments. b) Receive direction, coaching, feedback, and changes in production priorities professionally and constructively. c) Maintain a flexible and solution-oriented approach to changing crop, staffing, and production needs. d) Follow established procedures and decisions while contributing constructive ideas for improvement. Additional Duties and Responsibilities a) Assist with transplanting, production, shipping, field operations, and other departments as needed. b) Properly operate and care for company-issued tools, equipment, and devices. c) Assist with routine equipment cleaning, calibration, and maintenance. d) Participate in training and continuing education opportunities as appropriate. e) Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. f) Participate in weekend and holiday watering rotations when scheduled. Physical and Environmental Requirements This is an active greenhouse production position requiring regular physical work in greenhouse and outdoor growing environments. a) Work for extended periods in greenhouse environments that may be hot, humid, cold, or wet depending on the season and production needs. b) Work during periods of high greenhouse temperatures, particularly during spring and summer production. c) Work outdoors in varying weather conditions as required. d) Frequently lift and carry 5-30 lbs unassisted. e) Spend extended periods standing and walking on concrete, gravel, and uneven surfaces. f) Frequently bend, reach, kneel, squat, push, pull, and lift. g) Perform repetitive work involving hands and arms, including handling trays, plants, cuttings, and seed. h) Safely work around greenhouse equipment, irrigation systems, fertilizers, and crop protection products. Requirements Working knowledge of plant propagation, crop care, and greenhouse or nursery production practices. Ability to follow established protocols, production schedules, and direction from the Propagation Manager. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate production records and plant identification. Ability to organize assigned work, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain productivity in a fast-paced production environment. Ability to communicate effectively, receive feedback professionally, work cooperatively as part of a team, and communicate crop or production concerns promptly. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience, education, or training in plant propagation, horticulture, greenhouse production, nursery production, or a related field. Experience with vegetative propagation, seeding, irrigation, fertility, or young plant production. Experience working with greenhouse equipment, irrigation systems, and crop monitoring practices.

Compensation & Benefits Hourly Rate:

Based on experience and qualifications Starting wage is $18.00-$20.00 per hour dependent on experience. A wage review will be conducted 60 days following start date with opportunity for an increase based on performance.
